21 December 2018. Old Chemistry Springs into Life - Scientific Breakthrough of the Year!


Each year, the journal Science recognizes the scientific breakthrough of the year. The dating of marine sponges as the oldest animal on earth was selected as a runner up. Dr Paco Cardenás and Dr Sunithi Gunasekera in the Pharmacognosy research group participated in the study dating sponges back to 700 million years agod using steroid biomarkers. Congrats to them and all authors!
