Panel discussion in Stockholm's LifeCity

Pharmaceutical manufacturing for a competitive and healthier Sweden was in focus when SwedenBIO welcomed to a conference in Stockholm's LifeCity Wednesday 8 February. Christel Bergström, Professor of Molecular Pharmaceutics, represented Uppsala University and SweDeliver in a panel discussion on the pharmaceutical industry's possibilities to contribute to Swedish economic prosperity in a declining economy.

“Academic pharmaceutical research has a historically strong connection to industrial relevance and is increasingly valued. The initiative behind SweDeliver was taken by an industry grouping that approached the Faculty of Pharmacy with a concern for supply of future competence within drug delivery, a Swedish core business where continued cutting-edge knowledge is necessary. Today, we are a well-functioning network conducting research in 26 projects with the goal of filling jointly identified knowledge gaps,” stated Christel Bergström.

The well-attended meeting place, bringing together more than one hundred Swedish life science specialists, concluded that Sweden's attractiveness and competitiveness lies largely in the close connection and short distance between academia and industry, as well as the low thresholds for collaborative research.

You can now watch the panel discussion online. Also participating in the discussion are Anders Wallström, Thomas Eldered, Magnus Sävenhed and Anna Sandström.

  • SweDeliver is a national competence center in drug delivery.
  • With Uppsala University's Faculty of Pharmacy as the academic hub and 16 industrial partners, SweDeliver conducts research on parenteral, oral and pulmonary administration.
